Vintage Tween Fashion

I want to make this dress for my daughter but I can't decide which fabric, help me out.  There are 4 choices, three are quilting cottons, the blue with gold edging is cotton also (I'm guessing) but it is much thinner and has a nicer hand than the other three.  Drop your votes in the comment box with the number of the fabric you're voting for.
Fabric 1: blue floral print quilting cotton with the background having a slightly blue tint to it
 Fabric 2: white gingham
Fabric 3: pink quilting cotton with multi-colored flowers...kinda funky
Fabric 4: turquoise blue with gold trim on one selvage only.

I love the last choice - the blue with the gold edge.

My vote is for the turquoise, especially if you have enough for placement of the border. It would be lovely!

I'm a fan of #3, but it really depends on your daughter's personality. Is she shy/demure (#1)? Outgoing (#3)? Are you making a 'fancy dress' (#4) for her or something she can wear regularly (any)?

Oh, and the 'captcha' below is prize. :^)

Hi Rebecca! I followed you over from Sew Retro, because I love sewing for my daughter & son too! (and I am bit of a pattern hoarder myself, own Maremmas - have known far too many heelers - and am an even more beginner seamstress!)
I love fabrics 1 & 3, but possibly more for a lady than a girl - so my choice would be for either 2 or 4....

The last one, with the border. My advice with quilting cottons, they work best for younger, less shapier girls. Once they start getting curves, they don't drape as well.

My suggestion is if this is a surprise, have her pick the fabric she likes best but don't show her the pattern. If it's not a surprise, still let her pick the fabric. I think that will mean a lot to her and a great way to guarantee that she'll wear it with pride!

Definately the last one, it is is so pretty and is the most modern. The dress is lovely.

I like 3 and 4. I guess it depends on what your daughter is likely to prefer, though. 3 is more fun/casual; 4 is more sophisticated and less "outgoing". I'd wear 4 now but would have been too self-conscious as a pre-teen/teen.

the white gingham is so sweet, would be good if you want a "dressier" dress. my second vote is for the funky flowers.

I'm all for her choosing the fabric... but my own pick is the floral first one! Love it!

If your daughter really doesn't care, then have her choose the fabrics by personality. #4 is more formal. #3 is loud and playful. #2 is quiet and young. #1 has a grown up feeling to it. Also, take into consideration the fabric body. Less body will mean a limp skirt. My 2 cents worth :-)
